Hillsborough, population 36,634 is centrally located in Somerset County New Jersey. There is access to I-78 and I-287 and a link from there to the NJ Turnpike (I-95) and Garden State Parkway (I-80). Hillsborough is also located within easy commuting distance of both New York and Philadelphia but is primarily a suburban / rural community. More than 50% of its total acreage remains undeveloped. Hillsborough Township has 7,506 acres zoned for nonresidential development. There is a mixture of residential zoning clusters, garden apartments, townhouses and condominiums in the communities fifty-four square miles. Renter-occupied housing takes up 17% of total housing.
