Hillsborough, population 36,634 is centrally located in Somerset County New Jersey. There is access to I-78 and I-287 and a link from there to the NJ Turnpike (I-95) and Garden State Parkway (I-80). It is bisected by Route 206 which connects to Routes 22, 28 and 202. There is train service from Raritan, Somerville (and hopefully Belle Mead in the near future) and bus service from Somerville to Newark or New York. Four airports, one directly within the Township, and charter service are within driving distance to Newark International and Philadelphia International Airports. Hillsborough is also located within easy commuting distance of both New York and Philadelphia but is primarily a suburban / rural community. More than 50% of its total acreage remains undeveloped. Hillsborough Township has 7,506 acres zoned for nonresidential development. There is a mixture of residential zoning clusters, garden apartments, townhouses and condominiums in the communities fifty-four square miles. Renter-occupied housing takes up 17% of total housing.
